Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was convicted of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a call for a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a gathering of his supporters near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

His son wrote on digital networks on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your country, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your sofa? I urge you to battle with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our country."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's determination was the possibility of the former president's move to foreign missions near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a background of organizing to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The former president's legal troubles have generated frustration from fellow conservative nationalist American leader President Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.

Bolsonaro is being detained in a national police facility in the capital and will have a detention review on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that he be permitted to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he demanded ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of heading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a plot which included plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The security forces took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, restore order and bring him back to power.

At the moment, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also banned from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The former president called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him running in the 2026 presidential election.
